Fathers leave a handprint on their children’s hearts. They touch them in deep and lasting ways. Now this is clearly true for mothers too, but hey, this is for Father's Day!
If you are lucky, your dad was a key part of your upbringing. If things went right, he gave you nourishing support and provided a loving example of adulthood. Marveling in your father’s power and maturity, you learned that your dad was capable of so much more than a child. As you went to school, your dad went to work; a role that seemed glamorous and "all grown up." Knowing he would come home each day gave you a sense of security and wellbeing. No doubt about it: that handprint on your heart had begun.
If you grew up without your father or had a father who was not a part of your life, you knew that "something was not quite right." You may have been jealous of classmates who had two parents at home. You knew that somehow; they lucked out and you did not. Even so, a huge imprint gets left on your heart.
Join Reverend Dennis Ashley this Sunday for a lesson celebrating the complexity of feelings denoted by Father’s Day.
Our ensemble features Julie Croteau, Patty Ashley, and Laura Wineteer. They will be accompanied by LeeAnn Aerlyn-Moore and Jim Turner.
