The Journey to Freedom combines music from the Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar along with biblical passages and metaphysical interpretations to retrace the final steps that Jesus took on his path to Liberation. Anchoring this service is a talented ensemble of musicians and singers who along with Reverend Dennis Ashley will bring this age-old story to life. This tale begins triumphantly with Jesus entering the holy city to the jubilation of the crowds waving palm fronds and shouting Hosanna to the Son of David. The story continues through Jesus’s betrayal by his disciple Judas and ends with his eventual crucifixion by Herod Antipas the Roman ruler of occupied Israel. Through music and scripture, you will experience the deeper meaning of Palm Sunday which sets the stage for Christ’s resurrection on Easter.
