Stephen (Steve) Croteau began playing drums in Spokane at the age of fourteen, and by fifteen, he had his first professional gig. He continued playing through high school and college. However, it was the music program at Eastern Washington University (EWU) that introduced him to musical styles and instruments from around the world. This exposure to world music laid the foundation for his lifelong passion for all forms of percussion instrumentation.
EWU is also where he met his future wife, Julie Croteau. Together, they raised two beautiful children and teamed up for 20 years to make music at Unity. Steve enjoyed being part of the Music Team at Unity because there was a spirit of fun and collaboration within the team. We were a committed and creative group, always striving to uplift and inspire through our music.
Currently, Steve lives in Coeur d'Alene with his love, Mary Beth. He teaches music at Ramsey and Fernan Elementary Schools, plays in Wasted Genius, a nine-piece classic rock band based in Spokane, and enjoys hiking in the surrounding mountains with his 12-year-old lab, Bella.
