On April 3, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a speech in support of the striking sanitation workers at Mason Temple in Memphis, TN. This speech emphasized the role we all have in helping others, especially the poor and the defenseless.
This idea mirrors what Jesus professed in many of his recorded teachings. For example, in 1 John 3:17-18 Jesus said “Now, suppose a person has enough to live on and notices another in need. How can God’s love be in that person if he does not bother to help the other? Dear children, we must show love through actions that are sincere, not through empty words.”
Learning to unselfishly give love and aid is your special responsibility in this world. This is what you are here to learn. Moreover, your reward for this spiritual responsibility is magnified when you help those who are least capable of helping themselves.
Join Reverend Dennis Ashley this Sunday for a lesson about defending the defenseless.
