Reincarnation is a challenging concept to wrap your head around. It is the philosophical and religious belief that an aspect of every human being (the soul perhaps) persists after death and begins life again in a new body. Although some cultures and religions embrace it, others strictly reject it.
For example, Eastern faiths such as Hinduism have widely accepted reincarnation for over 3,000 years. In addition, many adherents of Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism use it to explain the evolution of the soul. They say reincarnation is how the soul learns all it needs to know to reach Nirvana-- the pinnacle of enlightenment.
Traditional Christians such as Catholics reject reincarnation completely. Among their arguments against it are the fact that they regard this transmigration of the soul as being incompatible with their concept of death. To Catholics, death is the end of a person’s earthly pilgrimage. Therefore, once it ends, they shall not return to another earthly life.
Join Reverend Dennis Ashley this Sunday for a lesson about reincarnation and the arguments for, and against it.
