When asked how to define Father's Day, a boy responded: "It's just like Mother's Day, only you don't spend as much." This boy’s statement is very insightful. The fact is the creation of Father’s Day was in direct response to Mother’s Day, established as an official holiday in 1908. Father’s Day was the inspiration of a young woman from Spokane Washington named Sonora Smart Dodd. Sonora and her five siblings lived with her widowed father. She desired to establish an equivalent holiday for male parents like him. She succeeded in getting the first statewide Father’s Day Holiday established in Washington State. State residents celebrated the first Father’s Day on June 19, 1910. Today, we celebrate Father’s Day throughout the United States on the third Sunday in June. 

This Sunday is Father's Day. Consequently, we will be diving into the story and meaning of this special holiday celebrating fathers. Reverend Dennis will address its creation as well as the role and deeper meaning of what it is to be a father. 

So, take the plunge with Reverend Dennis Ashley this Sunday as we celebrate and examine fatherhood, from both a human and Spiritual perspective.
