Our Palm Sunday Service the Journey to Freedom combines biblical passages with songs from the Broadway musicals Jesus Christ Superstar to retrace the final steps that Jesus took on his path to Liberation. This special service features a talented ensemble of musicians and singers who along with Reverend Dennis Ashley will tell this age-old story that kicks off Holy Week. The story begins triumphantly with Jesus entering the holy city to the jubilation of the crowds waving palm fronds and shouting Hosanna to the Son of David. While ending tragically through betrayal by his disciple Judas, and his eventual crucifixion by Herod Antipas the Roman ruler of occupied Israel. Through music and scripture, we will reveal the deeper meaning of Palm Sunday and set the stage for Christ’s resurrection on Easter.
