Sunday Lesson

lesson about what it means to Change the Role of the Heart.

When things are not working out in your life the way you would like, what is it you need to do differently? One answer is that if you genuinely want to propel your spiritual journey forward, it serves you well to create a true spiritual experience. But what does that mean? In part, it means that although the mind and the heart have always worked together in your life, it is quite easy to get their dual leadership role out of balance. Often, you tend to allow yourself to be "over-led" by your intellect. In Unity, you will never be asked to check your brain at the door when you come here. Yet it can get out of whack. And of course, the essential question you always need to ask yourself is: Do I like the life I'm living? And if you have been led by intellect and that is not working out, then it is time to try something new by letting the heart take a bigger role in leading your life.

It is useful to understand the role of the heart as energy. From that perspective, the Anahata, or heart energy, has a fascinating and critical role. It is the center of love, compassion, and emotional balance inviting you to connect with yourself and others from a place of openness and acceptance. As Rumi said, “You can only touch the sky by living from the heart.”
