BOOKWORMS ANONYMOUS
HOSTS
ALL-CHURCH EVENT
SUNDAY,
September 28, 3:00 PM - We will watch a 30-minute video about Dr.
Jill Bolte Taylor, PhD., the brain scientist who at age 37 had a
stroke and survived to document what happened, what it felt like,
and how it changed her life and even her personality. She wrote
“My Stroke Of Insight”, which the book group will have read
(highly recommended reading for everyone!).
After the video we
will have refreshments while we discuss Dr. Taylor’s story. As she
experienced the stroke and throughout her recovery, she found a
kind of peace she had never known before - and in doing so she
sounds a whole lot like Unity!
In her book, Dr.
Taylor weaves a story of transformation and triumph. She was a
brilliant, yet hard-nosed brain scientist (from the Harvard Brain
Lab) who was ambitious, competitive and at times even hostile
toward her peers, as she climbed the ladder of success, only to
find - through a near-death experience that there was another way
to view the world, another way to relate to people. She wasn’t
even sure she liked the person she had been. It is truly an
amazing and intriguing story!
This all-church event
will replace both the Seniors general meeting and the Bookworms
Anonymous meeting for September. The book, video, and subsequent
discussion just seemed too good to keep to ourselves. You all
come! |

Volunteer Sunday
Acknowledgement -Gratitude- Commitment
On Sunday September 28,
right after second service, the Board of Trustees is hosting an
“Ice Cream Sundae Sunday” celebration honoring the many
dedicated volunteers who help in dozens of ways to maintain a
smooth operation here at Unity Church of North Idaho. All are
welcome to share some ice cream and give a big thank you to Sunday
greeters, and the folks that keep the coffee dispensers full; to
those who offer their time and talent to our youth programs; to
the grounds keepers, maintenance personnel, audio/visual techs,
newsletter and office volunteers, …the list goes on and on.
Not only is this a time to honor those who have
stepped up,
but it is a time to get involved yourself. |

OCTOBER |
|
UCNI’s
Fall Six-Week Program Starts October 1st
T his
year we will explore and study Deepak Chopra’s new book “The Third
Jesus”. This online Web series will be broadcasted at the church
on Wednesday nights from October 1 thru November 5 from 7:00 to
8:30 PM. The series will feature Unity minister Wendy
Craig-Purcell of San Diego interviewing Chopra on key themes
related to who Jesus really was and what he really taught. Who is
Jesus Christ? Chopra provides an answer to this questions that is
both a challenge to current systems of belief and a fresh
perspective on what Jesus can teach us all, regardless of our
religious background. “There is not one Jesus”, Chopra writes,
“but three.” Come and discover with your Unity family the
universal teachings Jesus taught. We will watch the interview as
one group, then form small groups and discuss what was covered in
the interview. Mark your calendars! Love offering received. |

- Divorce Recovery Group
Wednesday evenings, 7:00 -
8:30 pm
Unity Center offers a weekly
opportunity for anyone who is currently experiencing a divorce
or has experienced a divorce in the past to meet with others who
understand and will support you in healing and self-care.
Here are some of the reasons group members give for attending
the DRG:
(1) I know I am not the only one going through this,
(2) help with children issues,
(3) focus on forgiveness,
(4) I know it is a safe place to talk about my feelings.
The group offers friendship and in-sight from experience on how
to cope with suffering, support your children during and after
divorce, restructure your life to support you in a positive way,
change your thoughts to bring you peace, and find humor and hope
in life. This group is open to the general public. Donations
accepted at each meeting. For information contact Sandra Kettle
